Are you running XP, Vista or Windows 7?

One of the first questions we usually ask our customers is which version of Windows are you running?  Most people do not know.  But fortunately, Windows has a window that will display this and other information about your computer.  To get to the system's information page you should click on Start  Control / Control Panel System.

Below is a more detailed list of instructions for accessing the System Information page.

1.  Click on the Start Button.  This will cause the Start Menu to be displayed.  On the Start Menu, there is either a "Setting" or "Control" or "Control Panel" option.

2.  If you have a Setting Option, click on that.  You should then see the Control Option and click on that.   f you do not have a "Setting" option please click on the Control or Control Panel option.

Once you click on Control or Control Panel, you will then be presented with yet another menu / window.  This menu / window, which be in alaphabetical order, should contain an option called "System".   Please click on System.  The resulting windows will display which version of Windows you are running (XP, Vista,7, and 32 or 64 bit),  the type of processor the computer has, and the name of your computer.

Increase the amount of RAM in your computer.

The single quickest and cheapest way to increase your performance on a computer is to add memory. There are a lot of factors that come into play when determining the amount of memory that you should have in your computer.  (If you would like, I would be glad to explain some of the details.  Please give me a call at 321-626-6799.)  Based upon my experience, here is the rule of thumb that I use:

A Windows’ XP computer should have a minimum of 1 gigabyte of RAM if you only have one to four windows open at any point in time.   If you regularly have more than four windows open at any point in time, you should have at least 2 gigabytes of RAM

A Window’s Vista computer should have a minimum of 2 gigabytes of RAM if you have only one to four windows open at any point in time and 4 gigabytes of RAM if you regularly have more than four windows open at a time.

Please follow the instructions below to determine how much memory your machine has:

1.         Click on Start
2.         Locate “My Computer” (on XP and Prior) or “Computer” (on Vista)
            on the Start Menu.
3.         RIGHT click on “My Computer”.
4.         A menu will appear.  Left click on Properties, which is bottom of the menu.
5.         A window will appear.  At the bottom of the window, under the “Computer:”
heading the system will display the type of CPU you have, the speed of that CPU
in GHz, and the amount of RAM (memory) that is inside your computer.
